Faith-Based Eating Disorder Recovery with Jayme on the Recover with God Podcast
I recently had the chance to be a guest on the Recover with God Podcast with Jayme, and I have to tell you—it was such a meaningful conversation. You know those chats where everything just clicks? This was one of those.
We talked about my own eating disorder recovery journey and how attuned eating has played a powerful role—not just in my life, but in the lives of so many I’ve worked with over the years. This conversation is for anyone who’s trying to navigate recovery while holding onto their faith—and wondering how those two worlds can come together.
Why Recovery Is Hard (and Why That’s Okay)
One of the things we dove into was the truth that recovery isn’t supposed to be easy. And honestly? That’s not a bad thing. When we’ve spent years using food or body control as a way to feel safe, letting go of those patterns can feel terrifying. But healing is possible—and it’s so worth it.
We also talked about how our childhood experiences and environments shape the way we relate to food, and how important it is to understand the “why” behind our behaviors.
Attuned Eating vs. Intuitive Eating: What’s the Difference?
You’ve probably heard of intuitive eating, but we explored how attuned eating goes even deeper. It’s not just about honoring hunger and fullness—it’s about reconnecting to the body with compassion, curiosity, and awareness of the emotional and spiritual layers underneath.
This deeper connection is what helps people move from simply avoiding diet rules to truly living in peace with food.
Bringing God Into Your Recovery Journey
One of the most powerful parts of this conversation was about how healing moves faster when we stop compartmentalizing our faith. We talked about why it can feel scary to let God into our recovery—and why that fear is valid—but also how doing so brings deeper freedom.
We also touched on how the church can support (or unintentionally hinder) recovery, and why every person’s healing journey will look different.
